On April 18th, 2026, in honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation and the events of April 19, 1775, one of our church families hosted a rifle match.
Who: Anyone with a .22 rimfire rifle and 50 rounds of ammo (no magnified optics; red dots are fine)
Where: Paul Ryan’s field
Cost: $10 entry fee
Prize: Top score takes home a new Ruger 10/22
This match was all about friendly competition, sharpening skills, and having a great time together. It was also a chance to see how you measure up to the historic “American Rifleman” standard—the kind of marksmanship expected of our fighting men throughout history. In other words, could you confidently engage man-sized targets out to 500 yards with iron sights?
They used AQT targets scaled for a 25-meter (82-foot) range and they shot from a variety of positions:
Standing on the largest target
Kneeling or sitting on the medium target
Prone on the smallest targets
